Let’s talk Mediumship commitment, trust and pushing to hard
Posted by Philip on October 24, 2023 at 1:38 pmIn the world of mediumship, the delicate balance between commitment and trust on one hand and the temptation to force one’s development on the other is a profound journey of self-discovery. It is as much about surrendering to the flow of spirit as it is about actively participating in the process. Through commitment, we declare our intent to understand the spirit world and our place service. We offer our dedication, discipline, and patience, acknowledging that growth takes time. Trusting in the process means allowing and letting go, creating a space for the guidance of the spirit world to enter. The art of mediumship requires both the commitment to develop one’s abilities and the trust to step aside and allow the messages and energies to flow naturally. In this balance, true mediumship finds its roots and blossoms into a harmonious connection with the spiritual world.
What’s your thoughts on revolving around commitment and trust verses pushing hard and trying to force your development ?

Totally agree with you. To add something to that: I have experienced a so called ‘paradox’ several times. There are times when all my attention is needed in the daily life as it is (young family), not leaving enough time to spend on spirit. However: never I have noticed more ‘growth’ spiritually, than in the time after such a time period full of daily hassles. This has helped me enormously in realising that spiritual growth happens all the time. And that sometimes ‘experiencing life’ is the best way to develop trust.

Totally agree, we must develop our spirituality from life’s lessons, which helps develop our spiritual ability

Good question. My first thought is to ask why be in a hurry as there is no end to development. Second is, if you are in a hurry, what is your goal and motivation – why are you developing?
-
Absolutely we must question the intention or is it ambition, with some I would like to ask the question.

This is huge, totally agree with you about finding balance and trust and commitment and pushing too hard. The words that keep coming back to me is that treating growth like watering a flower you may not be able to control the flower’s timing of blooming but you can keep watering it and supporting it when it is ready the plant will bloom.

Thanks for posting this, Phil. Your post reminds me that this is also true in other areas of my life right now. Perhaps it is my lesson in this moment. ❤️

I think lessons go hand in hand with our spiritual development!

This is the core of it, Philip.
When I “think” I’m in control, and “pushing”, thankfully, and FINALLY I feel spirit kindly slowing me down, and ENJOYING! ; therein lies the magic…..and not only for our mediumship, but for a less stressful and harmonious life. That is the gift of being on this blessed path….gratitude!

Mediumship has had a positive impact on my life as well. Balance commitment and trust are all very important elements to finding that sweet spot.
The dedication I have had to my mediumship pleases me although my husband may not agree. I trust the Spirit world and my intuition guides me. When I push too hard or get impatient then wobbles come through. I am in this for the long haul so I realize this is no time to be in a rush. It truly is a part of who I am now.

I think this is true with most things in life, because the conditioning we get, (I’ll speak for myself), that I get, is keep going, go the extra mile, push a little harder. There is some pressure to keep at anything. I appreciate this blog having me take a second a look and slow down if need be. It alleviates guilt for not doing more faster.
I feel the need to keep at it because of my age. I am no spring chicken and not sure I have another 21 years for continued experience. But I guess, even then, I am not trusting the guidance from spirit. This is something to meditate on. I know at least learning, applying what I know, and taking classes has helped me in many ways in my own personal growth. Maybe I need to just be content with that…

I think what you say here Maryalice is perfect about a balanced approach, knowing oneself and knowing reasons is something we all must do !

TRUST! Yes, I have learned to trust that Spirit is always present, wants to work with me, is there to support me and so much more. Now, it’s time to trust that Spirit will continue to support my unfoldment within the optimal timeframe. I guess part of trust is accepting what is in the present moment. This is not always easy. But, challenge accepted!

Trusting the present moment is difficult as you say, striving to master emotions in the moments helps us with expectance of situations, well said !

I have learned that the balance between intent and commitment is that it is a marriage of both. To move towards the change and stay the course. Events I have attended over the last two years, both with you both as well as other mentors, have reinforced that personal growth is also spiritual growth. Using a model when I was training. First step is unconscious incompetence, I don’t know what I don’t know, second step is conscious incompetence. I know what I don’t know. Third step is conscious competence. I am thinking through the process. The fourth step is unconscious competence. None of them can be forced because as soon as you try to something pops up to remind you where you are. Of course we can hover between steps and that is the joy of learning and intergrating the new knowledge and skill sets.

Pushing hard and trying to force a contact is a no-no when doing evidential readings. There’s the answer. To grow Spiritually and “Mediumistcally”, then, means we have to be patient and devoted to all aspects of our lives with ease and compassion. When that occurs, we feel the harmony—the balance within. As a result, we trust our souls’ clairs without apprehensions, judgments, and edging-God-out habits.

In forcing anything, there’s a desperation to want to be ready. This risks appeasing the ego to convince yourself that you actually are. In doing so, we risk doing harm. Patience and humility are ethical standards. We have to hold ourselves to the same standards we expect from those we care about. We do the most harm when we think we know something but don’t.

Ethics, morals and intentions are very important in our work and forcing things does not sit within those parameters, well said Amy !

I have found when you push there is a slowing or stopping. It can mean ego, ambition, worry, exhaustion, or a desire to do a good job. it is helpful to reflect on why to understand how to tweak how we work. Our intention is important in how we choose to work mediumistically which sets the foundation. Letting go places us in a neutral zone of being fully present for Spirit world. Harmony naturally occurs when we are in alignment with our communicator which is the greatest gift on both sides of the veil. Be kind to ourselves. We are all learning on both sides. . .

I always push myself, figuring out where I went wrong in a reading. I always have done that, including throughout my school years. It’s been about proving I can do it to myself and to others. In the process, I learn. In the process, I also have found warmth and acceptance from this wonderful community!!!!!

Hi Rosemary
It’s always good to reflect on our work straight after a reading or demonstration, it’s learning in real time, whilst still having the emanation of the power still with us.

I took class 1 a couple of times and I have enjoyed it. I reflect back on my experience and I think I was “forcing” MYSELF so hard that it wasn’t feeling natural, but there was that little light in me that knows that I believe in myself at some level. I’ve taken time away and I recently listened to an audiobook. So many things clicked within me as I listened. I had small ties to the author and didn’t know it. Her story was similar to the journey I feel I’ve been on. After hearing her books from different perspectives I started listening to and talking to myself differently. I am REALLY starting to witness life beginning to manifest itself in front of me.. it’s so strange that I just needed to hear things differently and I think I’m ready to come back to level one with a deeper sense of understanding and ready to let go and let things unfold as the universe shows me. Much gratitude to you both! See you in the new year!
Hugs from Texas,
Allison
